A Family-Owned Kayak Company
Who We Are
Trek Las Vegas started the same way a lot of great outdoor businesses do—with a love for a place and a desire to share it. After spending more than 15 years paddling rivers throughout the Southwest, we found ourselves coming back to Black Canyon again and again. The towering canyon walls, desert wildlife, hidden beaches, and emerald-green water make it one of the most unique places to kayak near Las Vegas. Today, we're a family-owned company based around sharing that experience with others. When you join us on the river, you're not stepping onto a big commercial tour. You're paddling with people who genuinely enjoy being out there and who still get excited when a bighorn sheep appears on the cliffs or the water lights up inside Emerald Cave. We believe the best tours aren't rushed. They're the ones where you have time to look around, ask questions, take photos, and enjoy being on the water. Whether it's your first time in a kayak or you've paddled for years, we're happy to share one of our favorite places with you. Learn more about us

Tours
Adventurous
At Trek Las Vegas, every trip is a chance to get out on the water and into Black Canyon the way it’s meant to be experienced. You’ll paddle the Colorado River, drift through glowing emerald water, and explore quiet coves and hidden beaches along the way that most people never see. This is a beginner-friendly adventure, but it’s still exciting for experienced kayakers who want something real—not a rushed, crowded tour. We keep our groups small and unhurried so you actually get time to explore, not just a quick stop for photos. Whether it’s your first time in a kayak or your fiftieth, this stretch of river has a way of turning a simple day on the water into something you’ll remember.
Scenic
Black Canyon has a way of doing the work for us. The water shifts color as you move through it, canyon walls rise straight out of the river, and everything gets quieter the farther you go. It’s not unusual to see desert bighorn sheep above you on the cliffs or a bald eagle cutting across the canyon. And along the way, you’ll pass old remnants from the Hoover Dam era—little pieces of history most people paddle right past without knowing they’re there. This isn’t a scripted tour route. It’s a living stretch of river that changes with light, wind, and time of day.
Personalized
We keep our groups small on purpose—because out here, that changes everything. It means we can actually slow down when something’s worth seeing, pull up to a quiet beach when conditions are right, take our time to spot wildlife, and adjust the day instead of forcing it into a schedule. No two days on this river ever feel the same—and that’s exactly how we like it!
Why choose us?
An Emerald Cave Experience That Feels Personal If you’ve been looking at Emerald Cave kayak tours, you’ve probably noticed they can look pretty similar on paper. Once you’re actually out on the water, though, the experience can be very different. At Trek Las Vegas, we keep our tours small (max 12 guests) and personal. No megaphones, no rushing from stop to stop, and no feeling like you’re being pushed through just another Las Vegas attraction. Launching from Willow Beach, we give you more time on the water than many other operators. Some Emerald Cave tours can feel rushed—you paddle to the cave, take a few photos, and turn around. We believe the river should be experienced, not just visited. Depending on the tour, you might pull up to remote beaches, explore hidden coves and inlets, and take in scenery you can’t believe is only an hour from Las Vegas. Beginner Friendly (Seriously) Never kayaked before? No problem. Most of our guests are first-time paddlers. Our sit-on-top kayaks are stable, comfortable, and easy to paddle. We’ll show you the basics, help you feel comfortable on the water, and make sure no one feels left behind. You don’t need any experience to enjoy an Emerald Cave kayak tour. We Take the Photos So You Don’t Have To Half the fun is actually being present. Your guide takes photos and videos throughout the trip, so you can enjoy the experience without worrying about documenting every second. And yes—we’ll make sure you get some great shots in Emerald Cave. Local Guides Who Actually Know This River We’re not reading from a script. We spend a lot of time out here and know Black Canyon firsthand—from reading wind and water conditions to understanding how the river changes throughout the day and knowing where wildlife is most likely to appear. Over time, you also pick up the stories and history of the Hoover Dam era that most people paddle right past. It’s the kind of knowledge that only comes from spending countless days on this stretch of river. Small Groups Make a Big Difference Keeping tours small means more flexibility, more conversation, and a better overall experience. You’ll have room to spread out, ask questions, and enjoy the river without feeling like part of a crowd. At the end of the day, we want this to feel less like a tour and more like getting out on the river with a friend who knows all the best spots. Ready to kayak Emerald Cave? Come see why so many guests call it the highlight of their Las Vegas trip.
Where Is Emerald Cave Near Las Vegas?
Location
Emerald Cave is located about an hour from the Las Vegas Strip inside Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Getting there takes you through some of the Southwest's most recognizable scenery. The route crosses Hoover Dam and winds through Lake Mead before arriving at Willow Beach, the launch point for our Emerald Cave kayak tours. From Willow Beach, the paddle follows the Colorado River into the Black Canyon Narrows. Here, steep canyon walls rise directly from the water, creating one of the most scenic stretches of river in the region. A few miles upstream sits Emerald Cave. When sunlight reaches the cave at the right angle, the water glows a vivid green, creating the effect that made the cave famous. Along the way, it's common to spot bighorn sheep on the canyon walls, great blue herons along the shoreline, and birds of prey soaring overhead. Despite being so close to Las Vegas, the Black Canyon feels surprisingly quiet and removed from the city.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced paddler, we ensure you will have a fun and safe experience. We love introducing newcomers to the sport and we provide sturdy sit-on-top kayaks for extra confidence. Before departure, we'll provide you with safety rules and paddling instructions. It's the perfect opportunity to try kayaking!
Do you need kayaking experience?
We cap all tours at a maximum of 12 guests to keep the experience personal, relaxed, and never crowded. Smaller groups mean less congestion at places like Emerald Cave, more time to explore, and a smoother experience on the water. It also allows us to operate responsibly—minimizing our impact and helping preserve the natural beauty of the Black Canyon.
How big are your tour groups?
Yes! We recommend solo paddlers be at least 13 years old and weigh at least 100 lbs. Children weighing 55 lbs. or more (usually around 7 years old) are welcome to join the adventure when riding in a tandem kayak with an adult. Our single kayaks have a weight capacity of up to 275 lbs. For guests over 275 lbs., we’re happy to set you up in a tandem kayak for a more comfortable experience. You can select your kayak preference at checkout, and we’re always here if you have questions or need help choosing the best setup for your day on the water.
Are there age and weight limits?
The brightest Emerald Cave glow is typically seen from mid-day through early afternoon, when sunlight reaches deeper into the canyon and lights up the water with that famous emerald-green color. Our midday and afternoon tours are often the favorite for guests looking for a more relaxed, premium experience on the river, with fewer crowds and less waiting at the cave than the busiest morning launch times. That said, every launch has its own magic. No matter which time you choose, you’re still in for an unforgettable day paddling through the Black Canyon with stunning scenery, hidden caves, wildlife, and plenty of time to soak it all in.
What is the best time to see Emerald Cave glow?
Yes! This stretch of the Colorado River is considered flat-water kayaking, meaning there are no whitewater rapids to navigate. While wind and water flow can occasionally create choppier conditions, we use wide, stable sit-on-top kayaks specifically chosen for comfort and safety. In addition to the right gear, your safety is supported by experienced guides who are certified in CPR and Wilderness First Aid (WFA), trained in advanced rescue techniques, and highly skilled in reading river, weather, and wind conditions. We also carry communication devices on every tour to ensure we’re prepared for emergencies—so you can relax and enjoy the adventure.
Is it safe?
At Trek Las Vegas, every kayak tour is designed to be safe, personalized, and unforgettable. With our team’s experience and attention to detail, you can focus on the adventure while we handle the logistics. 15+ years professional river guiding experience – we don’t just guide, we live this stuff. CPR & Wilderness First Aid certified guides – safety is built into every paddle Advanced rescue skills & real-time weather/wind monitoring before every launch – we’re prepared for anything. Emergency communication devices on all tours – peace of mind comes standard. Small, personalized groups (max 12) – you’re never just another paddle in the crowd. FAQs
Is the Emerald Cave kayak tour beginner friendly?
Yes! Our Half-Day Emerald Cave adventure is beginner-friendly and designed for all experience levels. We provide paddling instruction before launch, stable sit-on-top kayaks, and small group sizes so guests can feel comfortable exploring the river at their own pace.
What is the best time to see Emerald Cave?
While morning tours are popular for guests trying to fit adventures around Vegas dinner plans and shows, many paddlers believe the best Emerald Cave experience happens later in the day. Midday and afternoon lighting often create the brightest emerald glow inside the cave, while also bringing fewer crowds, calmer pacing, and better opportunities for wildlife sightings along the Black Canyon.
Is Emerald Cave worth visiting?
Absolutely. Emerald Cave is one of the most unique outdoor adventures near Las Vegas, featuring glowing green water, towering canyon walls, wildlife, and scenic paddling through the Black Canyon. With Trek Las Vegas, the experience goes beyond just Emerald Cave. Our small-group tours are up to an hour longer than many standard tours and include additional caves, hidden inlets, beaches, and extra time to truly enjoy the river — without feeling like you’re part of a long line of kayaks.

FAQs
What makes the Emerald Cave Sunset kayak tour different?
The Sunset tour offers a completely different atmosphere from daytime paddles through the Black Canyon. Guests experience golden canyon lighting, cooler evening temperatures, calmer water, and a quieter side of the river before returning beneath the evening sky in glowing LED kayaks. It’s a more peaceful and immersive way to experience the canyon beyond the busiest daytime hours.
Will we still see the Emerald Cave glow during the sunset tour?
Depending on the season and lighting conditions, guests may still experience beautiful emerald-colored water inside the cave during the Sunset Tour. We carefully adjust our launch times throughout the year to help guests catch the last of the Emerald Cave glow while still experiencing sunset on the river. The real magic of this tour, though, is the peaceful evening atmosphere, golden canyon lighting, and glowing scenery as the Black Canyon transitions into dusk.
Why is sunset one of the best times to kayak the Black Canyon?
Sunset is when the Black Canyon starts to feel truly magical. The daytime crowds fade away, wildlife begins to emerge along the shoreline, and the canyon walls glow gold as the desert cools down for the evening. With calmer water, peaceful scenery, and glowing kayaks lighting up the return paddle, the entire experience feels more remote, intimate, and unforgettable — like discovering a hidden side of Vegas most visitors never get to see.

What do people say about Trek Las Vegas Kayaking Tours and Rentals?
We haver a great experience with this tour. The instructions before arriving were very clear and accurate, making it very easy to find the meeting point. Our guide was already waiting for us when we arrived and was icredibly friendly from the beginning. Throughout the tour, he shared interesting facts and history about the area and we never felt rushed. They also provided plenty of snacks and water during the trip, and he was always checking that everyone in the group was doing well. At the end, we fell behind the rest of the group, and he came back to make sure we were okay and helped us catch up. We really appreciated that. 100% recommend this tour :)

My fiancé and I had a blast! Our tour guide Jared is THE adventure guy! His passion for the outdoors, hospitable energy and vast knowledge of the area made all the difference in this kayak tour. While we didn't get to go into the Emerald Cave (it was 4th of July weekend, kayak traffic 🥴), Jared took us to see a few other spots nearby. He pointed out all the wildlife, plant life, rock faces and shared history tales - everything we love about an awesome outdoor adventure. The next time we're in Vegas, we'll definitely sign up again for the night tour and bring the kids. Mahalo plenty Jared & Trek LV crew! 🤙🏽

Our kayak tour was incredible! The woman, Stephanie, who we spoke with on the phone was very good, answered every question we had and always got right back to us. Our guide, Jake, was awesome! One of the best experiences my friend and I have had. I love to come back again.

Stephanie was a rockstar. Great communicator and went the extra mile to get our private tour scheduled. Jared was an excellent guide. He was part historian/part naturalist. Jake, another guide, finished a tour and paddled back out to meet our group. He was also extremely personable and capable. Both Jared and Jake are part super hero as well. On our way back, we heard people in distress. Both Jared and Jake went out and saved them and their small dog when their inflatable kayak was losing air. The whole company is a bunch of good people offering a truly memorable experience.

Awesome tour with Jared!! Would highly recommend it. I am definitely going back. Jake was awesome help at the launch site. Could not attend without the help of Stephanie, she confirmed the booking, gave directions to the meeting area, notified us of the emailed waivers, and had us prep for the lack of phone service at the location. All three awesome, up beat, vibed out crew thank you all!!!

Me and my partner were visiting Vegas from the UK and kayaking on Emerald Cave was definitely a great choice. Jarred and Jake were absolutely amazing from start to finish, incredible knowledgeable about the area and multiple areas throughout the tour and provided great advice when rowing, especially for the stronger currents we experienced. One of the best parts is just the fact they were both frequently asking if we needed any water or snacks to stay hydrated and energised. We felt very safe. One of the best experiences we’ve had. Would definitely come back and recommend our friends and family. Great job guys. 👌

Jared was AMAZING! So knowledgeable about the history of the site and native vegetation and gave us great instructions for the kayaking as well. Our group of three were the only ones with him so he really let us make the trip what we wanted and captured phenomenal pictures to mark our special adventure. He took time to engage with each of us individually but also let us paddle ahead and just take it all in. Jared supplied dry bags and plenty of water and snacks. He did a great job of finding something to make the trip extra memorable for each of us, even seeking out an opportunity for my cousin to get a rattlesnake pic for her son (from a safe distance of course! 😁). We can't recommend Jared and this kayak adventure on the Colorado enough. An experience from our trip that we will forever remember. Stunning scenery and views, wildlife, and cool caves. Very beginner friendly as well.

Excellent experience. Jared is one of the best guide of my guide experiences. Have traveled all over Asia, Europe and the US. Jared states he is your friend and immediately it feels like you are on an adventure with a friend of years, but this friend shares historical information as well as native information. It was a magical day that will forever be a wonderful memory. Also everything promised was provided - dry bags, water, snacks.

We had an amazing experience with Trek Las Vegas Kayaking Tours & Rentals. We arrived a little early and were greeted right away by Jake and his team, who were friendly, professional, and able to get us started ahead of schedule. They gave us a clear kayak safety briefing, explained how to use the equipment, made sure our life jackets fit properly, and even covered important wildlife safety tips before we headed out.We booked the Emerald Cove kayaking tour, and Jake was an incredible guide. He shared so much information about the Colorado River, the surrounding Black Canyon, and the unique features inside Emerald Cove. He also took tons of great photos for us throughout the trip, which was such a nice bonus. The tour lasted about four hours, and they kept us comfortable with snacks and cold water, which was perfect for the warm weather. The entire experience felt safe, organized, and genuinely fun from start to finish. If you’re looking for kayak rentals in Las Vegas, a guided Emerald Cove kayak tour, or an unforgettable Colorado River kayaking adventure, this is the company to book with. Their customer service, knowledge of the area, and attention to detail really stand out.I highly recommend Trek Las Vegas Kayaking Tours & Rentals to anyone visiting Las Vegas who wants an outdoor adventure beyond the Strip. We’ll definitely be back.

Jared was an amazing tour guide! He was super knowledgeable about everything to do with the canyon. From wildlife, to plants, to history, he had an answer for everything! Even if he wasn't sure he would give one (He would preface that it might not be right). It was great to see some sheep (including one giving birth) as we got closer to Bob's office. With our small group, Jared was more of a friend than a tour guide!

We simply had a blast. 5 of us had a private evening paddle with Jared on May 7. He’s a phenomenal guide and fell right in with the vibe of the group. Knowledgeable of the river, yes, but then we got into the back stories of the area plus the in-depth info on the flora, fauna, and geology…he’s a wealth of knowledge. The sites and sights were amazing, colorful, and majestic in the canyon and caves. We kept a good pace, never felt rushed, and were allowed to linger a bit longer when necessary. We learned a ton over 4 hours without having to fill the time with constant chatter. We’d do this trip again on a heartbeat. Thanks,Jared! I’d give ya 6 stars if I could.

We were a group of international flight attendant friends from the UK, wanting to try something different on our downtime in Vegas. The communication via email between myself and Stephanie for starters was top notch compared to the other tour companies I tried. We had a great time on the water with Jared and Jake, they were really knowledgeable and friendly tour guides for our group of 6. This is a 4 hour, 4 mile round trip and the Emerald Cave at the half way point didn’t disappoint. Although the temperature was 38 degrees, it didn’t feel this hot when on the water and dipping my feet in periodically was refreshing. Trek Las Vegas provided me with a small waterproof bag for my small bag, and the tour also included unlimited snacks and water. My top tips would be, go for the afternoon tour as this provides the best pictures of the Emerald Cave due to where the sun is positioned by the time you get there and you will get that magical glow you see online! Secondly, the wind can get up in the afternoon a little, a double kayak is my recommendation as you could be rowing against this, this will prevent you becoming too tired, unless of course your fitness level is ok. The water is smooth, with no big waves, so no need to be nervous. We saw various wildlife such as a Bald Eagle and a mountain goat. The person sharing my kayak had never done this before and he had such a great time on his first go, so you don’t need to be experienced at all. The guides will provide you with some top tips. Get on the water and give it a go.

Jared was such an amazing guide! My friend and I were unaware of how difficult it would be to paddle back with the wind against us, he noticed we were struggled and offered to help us. Jared is the BEST!!! My friend and I went paddle boarding late in the afternoon and were not too well versed in the danger of wind gusts. We had lost our shoes, a paddle, our water bottles, went overboard twice, and had to share one board because our other one deflated. It was looking bleak and with no one around, we talked about how embarrassing it was going to be to have to call 911 and get life flighted out of a river when you could see the shore. Lol. But alas, like a guardian angel, Jared came from the heavens (or from the cove), paddled up to us, and asked if we needed a tow. On our tow back, he was so cool and kind and gave us the tour experience, snacks, water, survival tips, cool stories, etc. He took time out of his day to save us and make our anxiety disappear out of the kindness of his heart. It’s now one of my girlfriend and I’s favorite memories when it very easily could have gone a different way! We’re planning to book an actual experience with Jared and the team because we enjoyed ourselves so much. Book with them and you’ll have a lifelong favorite experience, I guarantee it!!

Jared made our kayaking trip absolutely awesome! We set out promptly at 730 and made it back by 11 AM and that was even popping a little further down the river to see a little more because we were going quicker than expected. I love that we got to optimize our time! His afternoon was free so he offered for us to go further too, but we declined due to other plans. This flexibility was much appreciated it! He is so knowledgeable about the rocks and the river life. We highly recommend choosing TrekVegas!

Last weekend, my husband and I took our three kids, aged 11, 9, and 7, on a kayak adventure with Jared. From the moment I called, I knew we were in great hands! Our oldest paddled his own kayak while the younger ones shared tandem kayaks with us. We had a fantastic time! Jared's shared intriguing stories about the river's history, local geology, and plant life. The kids loved swimming in the refreshing water, playing with squirt guns, and even tasting some edible plants along the way. We decided to extend our tour since everyone was flexible with time, allowing us to explore another cave further down the river. We had booked the tour around lunchtime, and I was grateful we had packed sandwiches, but Jared also came prepared with plenty of water and delicious snacks. This experience truly became a highlight of our vacation. Thank you Jared, you truly went above and beyond to make sure we had a great day!

This was a highlight of our Las Vegas trip. Our guide, Jared, was super knowledgeable about the river, the history, and the environment, which made the tour very enjoyable. Jared was also very understanding of everyone's ability to kayak, and worked with our group to see additional sites because our group could kayak well. The setting is absolutely beautiful, the water is so clear, and the kayaking was not difficult. We would absolutely do it again, and we'd recommend it to anyone who wants to spend time connecting to the nature around Las Vegas. The drive there was also so easy -- definitely worth the trip.

He is very experienced and I call tell he loves nature and outdoor. We trust him that he will make sure we have the best experience and keep us safe. He also takes pictures and videos for groups, which is a plus for the trip. Overall, we are very conformable and happy to have him as our guide! Emerald cave kayak is so worth the trip because our guide is professional and thorough!

It was an absolutely incredible experience in every way, our guide Jared was amazing, shares great info, stories, was funny, helpful and made me feel comfortable as it was my first time kayaking. My chosen family , my son all were just absolutely blown away by the experience, and Jared. We can't recommend him enough and we can't wait until the next time we are back in Las Vegas to do it again. We would have given 10 stars if possible.
